Effects of submergence stress at the vegetative growth stage on hybrid rice growth and grain yield in China

Submergence stress can greatly limit grain yield of inbred rice (Oryza sativa L.), but the effects submergence on hybrid are unclear. A pot experiment was conducted to clarify that happens at vegetative growth stage two Chinese cultivars. The cultivars Zheyou-18, an indica-japonica hybrid, and Yliangyou-689, indica were planted under treatments, (43 cm depth tap water for about 2 wk) control (no submergence). Results showed submerged ‘Yliangyou-689’ 539.0 g m-2 in 2018 614.2 2019; significantly reduced by 49.6% 44.2% control. lower level attributed survival rate, numbers tillers spikelets, plant dry weight, crop excessive elongation stems due plants. ‘Zheyou-18’ 466.8 376.4 2019 neither which different from control, indicating higher tolerance than ‘Yliangyou-689’. did not affect N K contents, it uptake rates 47.8% 88.7% 53.9% 89.5% these Furthermore, nonsignificant differences observed all parameters related starch viscosity between treatment.
